Director, Division of Illinois State Geological Survey

The Illinois State Geological Survey, a Division of the Institute of Natural Resource Sustainability (INRS) at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, is a premier state geological survey. The Survey was established in its modern form in 1905 and has pioneered applied and basic research in fields as diverse as Environmental Geology and Coal geology. The Survey is presently heavily engaged in developing cutting edge techniques for 3-dimensional geological modeling and subsurface mapping and in leading large scale projects in geologic carbon sequestration, having provided much of the technical underpinning for Illinois' successful bid to host the FutureGen project. The Geological Survey's Director provides scientific leadership and administrative direction for the development, coordination and implementation of programs, activities and professional services undertaken by a staff of 200 people. She/he reports directly to the Executive Director of the INRS and interacts regularly with all levels of government, industry, and the public to maintain and enhance the Survey's reputation for excellence and objectivity in science and public service.

Requirements:
A PhD in Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry or related discipline. An established record of obtaining sponsored funding from state and federal agencies and/or the private sector. Ten years of experience in the management of research, development, and outreach in an academic, industrial, governmental or non-governmental organization including five years of progressively responsible experience in the administrative management of scope and complexity similar to a large state geological

This is a full-time position that is available as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is $150,000 to $160,000, commensurate with experience.
