Close up of freshly burned mudboils on a till plain
Location:
Kaminak
Lake area, Kivalliq, Nunavut, Canada
In this image, from a photo taken at an altitude of approximately 30 m, the freshly burned turf rims of mudboils can be seen to be still smouldering. This is probably part of the area burned by fire #5, described in Shilts, 1975. It can be seen in this photo that even before the ash is washed away, boulders previously concealed by the turf rings are clearly exposed (compare to images from two years later, 0102, 0103, and 0106). See detailed discussion for image 0240.
