Collecting samples on top of Aktineq Glacier (B17)
Location:
Bylot
Island, Nunavut, Canada
Shirley McCuaig collecting samples in an area of closed crevasses on top of Aktineq Glacier (B17), about 13 km north of its termination. At the time of this photo, Shirley McCuaig was an M.Sc. student at Carleton University. Note fresh snowfall covering ice in the ablation zone. Also note the angular supraglacial debris and small piles of finer debris, probably washed in from slopes above the glacier up-ice from this location. Dr. McCuaig is a research scientist with the Newfoundland Geological Survey at this writing.
