Strudel and Rib-and-Trough Structures

Location: Eastern Northwest Territory, Canada
Strudel and Rib-and-Trough Structures

Picture taken from ~200m altitude. These features clearly show the morphology of strudel in an arctic lake. The raised rims, composed of sediment excavated by meltwater vortices during spring thaw are very clearly shown. The Rib-and-Trough features are developed on a stony till surface that projects through the fine-grained, organic-rich lake sediment cover. See discussions accompanying image 0047 and similar images 0119, 0122, 0123, 0124, 0203, 0204, and 0206. This may be another view of the same area shown in image 0071.
