Edge of an icing (aufeis, naled)

Location: Bylot Island, Nunavut, Canada

Photo of the edge of the icing (aufeis, naled), cut through by summer meltwater, looking downstream from Fountain Glacier (B26). The outer face of the terminal moraine of Stagnation Glacier (B28) forms the bouldery slope in the left background. The icing ice is perched on a boulder approximately 5 m in diameter, and the icing itself is about 7 m thick. Note the disoriented blocks that have fallen into the channel and the outwash gravel substrate that extends under the icing. See aerial view in image 0145 for con.
