Geologist Sunk in Liquefying Mud
Location: Island in Kaminak Lake, Nunavut, Canada NTS 55L; Long. 95° 13'W; Lat. 62° 18.5'N. (approximately)
This image shows how deep Mr. Villakazie had sunk in the liquefying mud after a two-hour struggle to extricate him. Just after this picture was taken, we flew in the high-discharge firefighting pump to hydraulically blast the mud away from his leg, freeing him. See the narrative that accompanies image 0063 for a full explanation of the incident and the properties of the sediment that led to this situation.
