Ground view of mass flow of marine mud

Location: Nunavut, Canada; NE corner of NTS sheet 65H Amber Lake
Ground view of mass flow of marine mud

This is another ground view of the toe of the massive mud extrusion depicted in images 0095 and 0096. Note the sparse spruce vegetation on the shores of this lake. Trees in upper left of image have been tilted by mass movement on this slope, but from the bend in their trunks, it appears that slope instability has persisted for much of the life of the trees, though the mass wasting in this image was obviously recent. See detailed discussion for image 0240.
