Low-altitude photo of palsa-like features

Location: Maguse River Delta, southwestern Nunavut, Canada; NTS 55E Eskimo Point
Low-altitude photo of palsa-like features

This low-altitude (<200 m) photograph of palsa-like or pingo-like features is similar to those described under image 0108 on the Maguse River Delta. Note the large (0.5 to 1 m diameter) boulders near the centers of two of the mounds, a circumstance noted on several of the features. Perhaps the boulders have some role in localizing the mounds, but other boulders scattered about the landscape are not associated with mounds. The vegetation-free areas among the mounds are flooded seasonally with water, which I believe is fresh and not tidal, although the surface of this area is very near mean high tide level for Hudson Bay.
